Programme Statement

Jonsered Manor is a place for intellectual and creative development.
People of today are almost constantly engaging in communication. This means that we are hardly ever left alone with our thoughts. There is also a need for us to meet other people and be exposed to other thoughts and views than those we typically encounter in our daily lives. In order for us to develop ideas, our own and others’, we need new impulses and time for reflection.

The University of Gothenburg took over Jonsered Manor in 2004 with an aim to respond to this dual need by creating opportunities for creative concentration and arranging meetings where people can interact across conventional boundaries.
• The seminars and conferences enable people from different parts of society – and who may represent different interests and perspectives – to meet and share their views on topics such as culture, education, research, welfare, economic growth, the environment and life in general.
• Opportunities for creative concentration are offered in the writers’ flats in Villa Martinson, 100 m from the main building. The flats are intended for researchers, authors and journalists who need a period of silence and solitude in their work.
• The University of Gothenburg is characterised by intellectual diversity and openness to the rest of society. This diversity and openness are clearly reflected at Jonsered Manor – not least in various internationally oriented events.
• Jonsered Manor is a meeting venue visible both inside and outside the academic world, both in Sweden and elsewhere.
